Meet our Board of Directors

Ther board currently serves the AFCU. The board is augmented by Associate members, Consultants and Church Representatives. All members volunteer their time, talents and expenses.

The Officers

Kris Richardson Smith

PRESIDENT

Kris Richardson Smith joined the AFCU board in May of 2017 and was elected as President by the board in May of 2020.

Kris was a member of the Development committee until she became President. Living in Paris from 2006 until 2011 Kris was a Member of the American Church in Paris. With her husband John she now lives in Canton, Massachusetts & Salisbury, in the United Kingdom.

David Moore

FINANCIAL SECRETARY

David Moore joined the AFCU Board in April of 2008. David was Co-chair of the AFCU Development committee from April of 2009 to April of 2013. David and his wife Laura attended the American Church in Paris from 2001 to 2003. They currently reside in Dallas, Texas.

Jon Farnan

2nd VICE PRESIDENT

Don worked most of his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), including starting in Kansas City Missouri, Tucson Arizona, Richmond Virginia, Tokyo Japan (from 1995-2001), New Jersey and New York (2005-2016) and Paris, France (2016-2021).

This is the third time in their married lives they have lived in Annapolis, returning each time after Don’s assignments in Tokyo, New York and Paris. Don served many different clients early in his career but from 2001 he focused primarily on financial services companies and in the last 15 years almost exclusively on large global insurance companies.

During his 37 years at PwC he was also engaged in other parts of PwC, specializing in mergers and acquisitions, consulting and in forensics investigation work. Don held various leadership positions during his career including the NY insurance practice but felt his career calling was in client service and so he always aspired to serve the large complex financial institutions.

Don graduated from Rockhurst University, a Jesuit university in Kansas City, Missouri. Don has been an active participant in organizations and churches over the years in their various locations but was particularly active at the American Church in Paris (ACP) where he served four years on the finance and stewardship committees, including periods as the Vice Chair and Chair of the Finance, Stewardship and Development Committee.

Don was active in many areas of the finance, accounting, budgeting, and fundraising at ACP and is excited to join the AFCU board in 2021.

Julie Voskuil

TREASURER

Julie Voskuil firsts joined the AFCU board in 2004 as Treasurer. She served in this role from 2004 through 2007. Julie again assumed the role of Treasurer in 2017.

Julie and her husband, Jon, were members at the ACP from 1996 to 1999. While in Paris, Julie served in a number of critical roles.. Julie is a CPA and is a tenured Accounting professor at Calvin University, where she has taught since 1999. The Voskuils currently reside in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.

David Van Cleef

1st Vice President

David Van Cleef was elected to the AFCU Board in 2022.

Jenn Cavanaugh

SECRETARY

Jenn Cavanaugh (M.A. Theology and the Arts) is a freelance writer, editor, and teacher currently living in Seattle.

While at the ACP with her family from 2013-2019 she was active in the writers’ group, Christian education committee, refugee ministry, 100NOW, and choir as well hosting a small group and serving as Council Vice Moderator.
